Description

The Official Mexican Standard (NOM) in question was issued to establish specifications to guarantee the welfare of marine mammals in captivity and regulate all activities relating to these species with regard to the dignified and respectful treatment of wildlife. This Standard is generally applicable throughout the national territory and binding on all physical and legal persons who lawfully own or possess marine mammals in captivity.  	Given that the circumstances which led to the publication of this Emergency Mexican Official Standard continue to exist, the Mexican government has decided, pursuant to Article 48 of the Federal Law on Metrology and Standardization, to extend its period of validity for a further six months.
