Description

This Mexican Official Standard establishes the characteristics and specifications for the marking of containers and packaging used to transport hazardous substances, materials and wastes.  Within its ambit, this Standard is mandatory for shippers, carriers and consignees of hazardous substances, materials and wastes and manufacturers engaged in the construction and reconstruction of the containers and packaging used for their transport.  This Standard does not apply to the following:  Containers and packaging for Class 7 (radioactive) materials and residues thereof, which are subject to standards issued by the Ministry of Energy through the National Commission on Nuclear Safety and Safeguards; containers and packaging used to transport compressed gas, refrigerated gas, liquefied gas or gas dissolved under pressure (Class 2), or containers and packaging with a net weight of over 400 kg. or a capacity of over 450 litres. 	This Standard is equivalent to Chapter 6.1, points 6.1.1, 6.1.2, 6.1.3 and 6.1.4 of the United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Model Regulations (the "Orange Book"), Eleventh revised edition, United Nations, New York and Geneva, 1999.
