FIRST –The following additions are being made to the Mexican Official Standard NOM-116-SCFI-1997, Automotive Industry – Lubricating Oils for Petrol or  Diesel Engines – Commercial Information:  A second paragraph to Chapter 1 "Objective and Area of Application";  an initial paragraph to Chapter 3 "Definitions";  the paragraphs 3.7, 3.8 and 3.9;  the subparagraphs iii and iv of section e) of paragraph 4.2.1;  the subparagraph iv of section e) of paragraph 4.2.2 and a chapter 4BIS.  The standard will therefore appear as follows: " 1. Objective and area of application   …. This Mexican Official Standard does not apply to two-stroke petrol engines." " 3. Definitions The following definitions have been established for the purposes of the application of this Mexican Official Standard:  	3.1 – 3.6…."  6. Description of content:  (cont'd)                                 "3.7 Obsolete 'Obsolete' indicates that the category refered to is no longer approved by API- American Petroleum Institute- and that its acronym cannot appear on the trademark service symbol. "3.8 Approval This indicates compliance with the quality requirements established by API –American Petroleum Institute." "3.9 Generic name This can be: 	Lubricating oil for petrol engines; 	Lubricating oil for diesel engines; 	Lubricating oil for the petrol engine 	Lubricating oil for the diesel engine 	Oil for petrol engines 	Oil for diesel engines 	Oil for the petrol engine, and 	Oil for the diesel engine." "4.2.1 Language and Terminology … (a) – (e)… (i) and (ii)… (iii)	service category for petrol or diesel engines, as indicated in tables 1 and 2 or in 	conformity with the manufacturers own classification, specifying its formulation, (iv) level of viscosity" "4.2.2… (a) – (e)…  (i)	recommended usage in accordance with tables 1 and 2 or the manufacturers own 	classification, specifying its formulation; (ii) indicating approval is optional , based on the information in tables 1 and 2.
