Description

The Swedish Railway Safety Act (1990:1157) states that rolling stock has to be approved before taking into operation in Sweden.  Today there are no regulations for application of the Act.  These new regulations establish the conditions to be met regarding the process and the documents required for the approval of rolling stock. However, the regulations do not embody functional or technical requirements on rolling stock.  The process required in the regulations is in accordance with the standard SSEN 50126. There are four chapters in the regulations; 1) general requirements, 2) new rolling stock, 3) imported rolling stock, and 4) foreign temporarily used rolling stock.   Chapter 1 contains exemptions, definitions, applicant, classification and issues for infrastructure managers.  Chapter 2 contains requirements for approval of new and redesigned rolling stock.  It states which documents the applicant has to produce and present to the Inspectorate.   Chapter 3 contains requirements for approval of imported rolling stock, already approved in its own country.  Like chapter 2 it states which documents the applicant has to produce and what he has to present to the Inspectorate. Chapter 4 contains requirements for approval of foreign rolling stock for temporary use in Sweden (track working machines, transit vehicles, exhibition vehicles etc.).  These requirements are a simplification of the approval process for rolling stock approved in its home country.
