Product Covered

The Decree pertains to all
products or components thereof in which mercury or a mercury compound is applied or
to which mercury or a mercury compound is added, with the exception of a number of
products containing mercury, specified as such, and for which no viable alternative is
available: pycno- or porosimeters, equipment to calibrate platinum-resistance
thermometers by means of mercury's triple point, mercury thermometers for
standardized analytical tests, certain gas-discharge lamps, heating thermostats (up to
2001) and products used by the armed forces and in aviation. The scope of the Decree
does not include mercury as a pure substance, mercury compounds and mercury alloys,
such as amalgams applied in dentistry, pharmaceutical products and batteries. For a
