Description
The Republic of Colombia hereby advises that the Ministry of Health and Social Protection has issued Resolution No. 2056 of 2023 amending Articles 2, 3, 6, 7 and 8, replacing Technical Annexes 1 and 2, and repealing Article 7 of Resolution No. 2013 of 2020, relating to the Technical Regulation defining the maximum sodium content for the food prioritized in the framework of the National Strategy for the Reduction of Sodium Consumption. Main areas subject to the amendment - Category definitions - Sodium content in certain categories: The Ministry of Health and Social Protection has completed the review of technical aspects of achieving the targets in the "soya sauce" and "mustard" categories. During this process, it became clear that there are different technological processes for subcategories within these two groups. Soya sauce can be made using either natural fermentation or hydrolysis processes, meaning that subcategories and specific targets for each subgroup need to be established. Similarly, in the case of mustard, one process has been identified for the mustard category and another for sauces made with mustard. Accordingly, Article 3 of Technical Annexes 1 and 2 has been amended to establish definitions for each subcategory, tariff subheading and reduction targets. - Conformity assessment procedure: The conformity assessment parameters have been reviewed and modified. In this context, Articles 6 and 8 have been adjusted to remove the requirement for a third-party conformity certificate and change it to a first-party conformity requirement. The purpose of this change is to improve compliance with the standard. Moreover, Article 7 has been repealed, as the certificate of conformity will not be required.
