Description
Adopted measure: The Regulation provides for a unitary and exhaustive system laying down the rules to be applied within the European Union territory as regards protected designations of origin and protected geographical indications for wine, protected designations of origin and protected geographical indications for agricultural products, including foodstuffs, and geographical indications for spirit drinks. It contains in particular provisions in respect of registration, amendment and cancellation of geographical indications, rules on protection and provisions on controls and enforcement of geographical indications. The Regulation also clarifies the provisions related to already existing schemes of Traditional speciality guaranteed (TSG) aiming at traditional aspects of products without being linked to a specific geographical area as well as Optional quality terms (OQT) referring to specific horizontal characteristics of products, farming methods or processing attributes which apply in specific areas (e.g., ‘mountain product’).
